'Hospitality, Everyone's Virtute' 'Hospitality, Everyone's Virtute'
We are delighted to share the incredible achievement of one of our Year 6 students – Eva M, who has submitted a powerful and meaningful artwork for the prestigious Nagle Education Alliance of Australia (NEAA) 2024 Nagle Prize Competition. Her submission reflects the core values of St Rita's College and the life of Venerable Nano Nagle.
Her artwork is an intricate composition that thoughtfully combines various symbolic elements. The central feature is a vibrant, welcoming light—a tribute to Nano Nagle's legacy as the "Lady of the Lantern," symbolising warmth, care, and guidance for those in need. Surrounding the light, she has depicted open hands, representing hospitality and inclusivity, a reminder of the importance of welcoming all people, regardless of background.
Another key element in her piece is the use of traditional First Nations symbols, honouring the deep connection between hospitality and Australia’s Indigenous culture. Through these symbols, she conveys respect for the custodians of this land, aligning with our school’s commitment to reconciliation and understanding.
Additionally, Eva has drawn imagery of diverse people and cultures linked together, reflecting how hospitality fosters unity and community within our school and beyond. The bright colours and thoughtful details in her work bring to life the values of empathy, kindness, and service that we strive to instil in our students.
We are incredibly proud of Eva's creative talent and dedication. Her work is a wonderful representation of the heart and spirit of our students, and we wish her all the best in the competition!
