London calls for St Rita's design students London calls for St Rita's design students
Two St Rita’s College students are set to study abroad next year after being offered a place at London’s prestigious University of the Arts (UAL).
After months of portfolio preparation and navigating the international university application process, Year 12 students Ella and Elizabeth said they were thrilled to see their hard work pay off.
Ella, who has long been interested in pursuing a career in the fashion industry, will begin a Bachelor of Fashion Buying and Merchandising in October next year.
“I’ve had my heart set on UAL for a while now so it is extremely rewarding to be given this opportunity,” Ella said.
“I am looking forward to being surrounded by a creative, versatile and thriving arts culture within London.
“I hope to graduate having gained a wealth of knowledge due to the incredible course, facilities and tutors on hand who will challenge and grow me, helping me to reach my full potential,” she said.
“This process has shown me it’s so important to focus on your strengths and follow your passions.”
St Rita’s Vice College Captain Elizabeth was accepted into the International Preparation of Fashion course within the London College of Fashion at UAL.
“As I started to research, it became clear that UAL is one of the best schools, but I never really thought it was possible,” Elizabeth said.
“I decided to go for it - I didn’t want to be left thinking what if?”
She said both girls were hoping to be able to travel by October next year.
“Living overseas in London will be such an amazing experience, and I’m also extremely excited to meet new people who are also passionate about what they are studying,” she said.
“The facilities at UAL are first-class and I feel very fortunate to get to use them next year.”
As for long-term goals, Ella aims to become a buyer for a leading department store.
Elizabeth would like to design for her own label.
