St Rita’s College DUX, Annabelle Hazelton has further reason to celebrate. After achieving a perfect ATAR Score of 99.95, Annabelle has been awarded a Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship along with a placement in the Griffith Honours College, a QCE Achievement Award and the TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarship and a QCAA Academic Commendation Award for achieving six As in General subjects.
Annabelle told the College of her latest achievements on the eve of her presentation of the 2021 College Dux Award and just a few weeks out from beginning her new life chapter which will immerse her in the world of medical science.
“I got accepted into my first preference at uni and will be studying a Bachelor of Medical Science at the Griffith Nathan campus. A few weeks ago, I found out that I was awarded a Sir Samuel Griffith Scholarship. I was also offered a place in the Griffith Honours College” said Annabelle.
The list of awards and scholarships just keeps growing for Annabelle. “I was then informed that I won a Queensland Certificate of Education (QCE) Achievement Award, and am also really excited because I’ve just found out that I have been awarded a TJ Ryan Memorial Medal and Scholarship to support my university education.”
Whilst at St Rita’s Annabelle excelled at the College’s accelerated curriculum program which saw her complete her Senior German language subject in Year 11 before advancing to German Extension. She holds on to her hope to study in Berlin for a semester while at University, which is home to renowned higher learning educational opportunities.
Annabelle was accepted into the National Youth Science Forum Year 12 Program (NYSF), which mentors Australia’s leading young scientists, where she relished working with like-minded students and delving into the Large Hadron Collider, the world’s largest and highest-energy particle collider.
Adding more to her educational pursuits, Annabelle was heavily involved in the College’s significant music program as a Trumpeter and member of its Symphony Orchestra, various orchestral bands and College choirs.
There is an exciting road ahead for this outstanding young lady. Annabelle values that the staff of St Rita’s taught her the importance of not just focusing on herself and to look for how you can make a difference. She undertakes tutoring work across a range of subjects to current students of St Rita’s.
